Just before Tuesday’s big MLB game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Diamondbacks had an unusual game delay notice: “Tonight’s game has been delayed due to a bee colony forming on the protective netting behind home plate.”
Can you imagine the buzz this caused among MLB fans? It was all the talk! And guess who came to the rescue? None other than Matt Hilton, the beekeeper summoned by the Diamondbacks. Dressed in his snazzy all-white beekeeping gear, he swooped in and removed the bee colony, while the crowd erupted into applause and Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero” blared over the speakers.
After saving the day, the Diamondbacks couldn’t resist giving Hilton his moment of glory. They invited him to throw the ceremonial first pitch once the insect situation was under control. “It was a little nerve-wracking, I’m not going to lie,” Hilton admitted later. “Lot of pressure to get this game going. But I was happy to come and take care of it.”
And guess what? Maybe it was the excitement of the moment, but the Diamondbacks went on to win the game 4-3 against the league-leading Dodgers. Now that’s what I call turning a sticky situation into sweet victory!
