It’s hard to miss that temperatures are soaring around the globe. With the heat, our car interiors are becoming uncomfortably warm, leading to an increased use of air conditioning and greater strain on engines and batteries. But don’t worry, Nissan has an innovative solution in the works to keep us cool from the outside in!
Nissan is currently testing their “cool paint,” which looks like regular paint but is six times thicker and much cooler to the touch. According to Nissan, this special paint can lower roof-panel temperatures by nearly 22 degrees Fahrenheit and bring down interior temperatures by 9 degrees. How does it work? The paint reflects sunlight and creates electromagnetic waves that redirect energy away from the vehicle.
Susumu Miura, the development lead, shared his vision: “My dream is to create cooler cars without consuming energy. This is especially important in the EV era, where the load from running air conditioning in summer can have a sizable impact on the state of charge.”
This innovative paint technology promises a more comfortable ride and a greener, more energy-efficient driving experience. If you’re interested in learning more about this cool development, keep an eye on Nissan’s updates!
