Menopause can bring a range of experiences, and for many women, one significant concern is bone loss. If you’re facing this challenge, there’s promising news: medication might offer some relief.
Abaloparatide, a daily at-home injection, has been making waves for its ability to increase bone density by stimulating cells that create new bone. This “bone-building” drug has already been available in the U.S. for men and women with osteoporosis, but now it’s set to make a difference for millions more as it rolls out in England over the next three months.
According to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), nearly half of women in the U.K. aged 80 have osteoporosis—a risk that spikes after menopause due to hormonal changes.
Jonathan Benger, NICE’s chief medical officer, highlighted the importance of this development, saying, “Our focus is on enabling access to care that improves quality of life while offering value to the taxpayer.”
