During a press briefing alongside California Gov. Gavin Newsom on the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, President Joe Biden shared a personal milestone with reporters. In the middle of the updates on the fire response, the 82-year-old president suddenly shifted gears, announcing, “I’m a great-grandfather!”
Standing at a firehouse in Santa Monica, Biden revealed that his eldest granddaughter, Naomi Biden Neal, and her husband, Peter Neal, had welcomed a baby boy named William Brannon Neal IV. The president beamed as he shared the news, quipping about briefly mistaking the baby’s gender. The First Lady, Jill Biden, later confirmed the announcement with a heartwarming Instagram post.
This joyful moment is in contrast to the complicated dynamics within the Biden family. While the president and First Lady have met their newest great-grandchild, they have yet to meet their youngest granddaughter, Navy Joan Roberts. Born in 2018, Navy is the daughter of Hunter Biden and Lunden Roberts. After years of legal battles, Hunter only recently acknowledged paternity and began paying child support.
In a previous statement, Biden referred to Navy as part of the family, saying, “This is not a political issue, it’s a family matter. Jill and I only want what is best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy.” Despite the public recognition, the Bidens have not yet established a personal connection with Navy.
While the wildfires were the main focus of the briefing, this glimpse into the Biden family’s personal joys and challenges added a poignant layer to the day
