MSNBC is making big changes to its programming lineup, and one of the biggest headlines is the cancellation of Joy Reid’s show, “The ReidOut.” Fox News Digital reports that Reid’s 7 p.m. ET slot will be replaced by a new program featuring three different hosts:
- Symone Sanders-Townsend, a former spokesperson for Vice President Kamala Harris
- Alicia Menendez, daughter of embattled former Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.)
- Michael Steele, former RNC Chair turned MSNBC contributor
Reid is expected to host her final episode this week before stepping away from the primetime lineup.
More Big Changes Coming to MSNBC
“The ReidOut” isn’t the only show getting cut. MSNBC’s new president, Rebecca Kutler, has even bigger plans to revamp the network. Additional changes are expected across:
✅ Dayside programming
✅ Weekends
✅ Primetime lineup
One notable shift: Jen Psaki, former White House press secretary and current host of “Inside with Jen Psaki,” will likely get more airtime under the new programming structure.
Meanwhile, Alex Wagner—who had a primetime show before Rachel Maddow reduced her schedule—will stay with the network as a correspondent, but she is not expected to return as a primetime host.
MSNBC declined to comment when asked about these programming changes.
Why Did MSNBC Cancel “The ReidOut”?
Joy Reid’s program has been losing viewers at an alarming rate. In February 2025, “The ReidOut” averaged only 973,000 viewers, a 28% decline from the 1.3 million viewers it attracted in February 2024.
Reid has been known for her controversial takes and harsh anti-Trump rhetoric. Some of her most talked-about moments include:
🚨 Declaring that Black women have lost interest in “saving America” because of the 2024 election results
🚨 Comparing Trump’s immigration policies to Hitler’s Germany and the Holocaust
🚨 Denying authorship of homophobic blog posts from her past, later admitting she likely wrote them but still apologized
Despite these controversies, Reid became one of MSNBC’s most well-known liberal voices. However, declining ratings and shifting priorities at the network may have led to her show’s cancellation.
What’s Next for MSNBC?
With these major changes, MSNBC seems to be restructuring for the 2024 election cycle and beyond. While Joy Reid is out of primetime, her next move remains unclear.
