Big things are happening in downtown Louisville! 🌆 After sitting largely neglected for decades, Belvedere Park—the iconic overlook above the Ohio River—is finally getting a world-class makeover. And the firm behind the transformation? None other than Heatherwick Studio, the creative minds that designed New York City’s breathtaking Little Island park.
The new design will transform Belvedere Park into a thriving, green oasis, seamlessly connecting the city to its waterfront. Here’s what’s in store:
🌿 Lush Green Spaces – A park designed for relaxation, social gatherings, and community events.
🏛️ A Stunning Pavilion – With a flowing, ribbon-like design, this structure will be the centerpiece of the park.
🚶♂️ Pedestrian-Friendly Pathways – More walkable spaces to enjoy scenic views of the Ohio River.
🎭 A Hub for Culture & Entertainment – The revitalized space will host concerts, festivals, and public events.
For years, residents and visitors alike have longed for better access to the riverfront and a vibrant public space in the heart of the city. This project aims to bring life back to Belvedere, offering a place for relaxation, community gatherings, and cultural experiences.
Heatherwick Studio’s executive partner, Stuart Wood, summed it up best:
“Belvedere has incredible potential to become a new green ‘living room’ for Louisville and its people. We’ve been listening to the community, and there’s a huge appetite for something powerful, exciting, and new.”
🔨 Construction begins in 2026, and while it will take some time to bring this vision to life, the early renderings already show a game-changing transformation.
