Slotkin, who narrowly won her Senate seat in 2024, was handpicked by Democratic leadership to deliver a rebuttal to Trump’s speech. However, her selection is an odd choice given her vulnerable position in a state that overwhelmingly supports Trump’s America First policies. Michigan, once considered a battleground state, has increasingly turned red in response to the failures of the Biden administration and the Democratic Party’s radical agenda.
Attempting to oppose Trump’s policies while knowing they are widely supported by Americans puts Slotkin in an awkward position. How do Democrats argue against policies that promote economic prosperity, lower taxes, energy independence, and a secure border?

- America First Foreign Policy: Unlike the previous administration’s weakness on the world stage, Trump is reaffirming America’s leadership by prioritizing national interests and pushing back against adversaries like China and Russia.
It is unclear how Slotkin or any Democrat can effectively argue against Trump’s call for a “Golden Age of America.” The policies he has already enacted in his return to office are aimed at rebuilding the economy, strengthening the military, restoring energy independence, and putting American citizens first.
Democrats, on the other hand, continue to push radical policies that have led to economic decline, higher crime, and global instability. Their only strategy appears to be fear-mongering and obstructing Trump’s efforts—an approach that has already failed them in past elections.
