In a move that smells more like desperation than strategy, Communist China just hiked its tariffs on American goods to a whopping 84% — more than doubling the previous 34%. This aggressive move, announced by Beijing’s Finance Ministry, kicks in this Thursday.
It’s the latest shot in a high-stakes global trade showdown — and the target is clear: Donald Trump.
But as always, Trump isn’t blinking.
President Trump has been working tirelessly to end decades of lopsided trade deals that have gutted American manufacturing, shipped jobs overseas, and handed China the keys to our economic future. His latest move? Reciprocal tariffs — matching the tariffs other countries slap on us, including China.
Last week, the Trump administration announced new tariffs of 34% on Chinese imports — in addition to the already existing ones — targeting a regime that has long taken advantage of the U.S. economy while giving us nothing but broken promises in return.
Instead of coming to the negotiating table like a responsible player on the world stage, China is doubling down on retaliation. Its Customs Tariff Commission fired off a bitter statement through the Chinese Communist Party mouthpiece, The Global Times, accusing the U.S. of making “a mistake on top of a mistake.”
The statement went on to demand that the U.S. “cancel all unilateral tariff measures” and warned that China would “fight to the end.”
Translation? China wants Trump to cave. But that’s not going to happen.
💬 “It was a mistake for China to retaliate,” said Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, backing Trump’s tough stance. “The only way to protect American workers and businesses is by standing firm.”
To make matters worse, Beijing is now trying to play the victim, filing a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) — a globalist body that has allowed China to cheat the system for years. This, while continuing to steal U.S. intellectual property, manipulate currency, and block fair access to its markets.
Trump has warned time and again: China’s playbook is built on economic warfare, not partnership. And now, instead of negotiating, they’re escalating — showing the world that they’d rather lash out than clean up their act.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent didn’t hold back when reacting to the tariff escalation:
“It’s unfortunate that the Chinese don’t want to come and negotiate, because they are the worst offenders in the international trading system,” Bessent told Fox Business Network. “The American people deserve a level playing field.”
And that’s exactly what President Trump is fighting for.
