Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) has a message for President Trump’s team: stop talking about the criminal past of deported illegal alien Kilmar Abrego Garcia—even if that past includes MS-13 gang ties, human trafficking, and domestic abuse.
In an appearance on ABC’s This Week, Van Hollen complained that Trump officials are putting “too much” information about Abrego Garcia on social media. Instead, he said, “They’re trying to distract attention… They should put up or shut up in court.”
Let’s pause there. While the senator wants the American public kept in the dark, the facts about Abrego Garcia’s background are both disturbing and important. Trump officials say Garcia:
- Was ordered deported in 2019
- Allegedly beat his wife
- Was a street hustler for MS-13 in Maryland
- Helped smuggle illegal migrants into the country
Van Hollen didn’t deny these claims outright—but when asked directly on CNN if Garcia was part of MS-13, the Democrat ducked:
“I’m not going to get into the details,” he said. “I didn’t ask him that.”
Really?
Instead of addressing the disturbing charges, Van Hollen accused Trump’s team of trying to “litigate on social media” instead of in court. But here’s the problem with that argument: The public deserves to know who’s being allowed to stay in this country—and what danger they might pose.
And it’s not just about one criminal. It’s about the entire Biden-era approach to illegal immigration and how it’s putting American families at risk.
Van Hollen and many of his Democrat colleagues have been actively working to slow down or stop deportations—especially under President Trump’s revived efforts to remove criminal illegal migrants. This includes individuals with gang affiliations, domestic violence charges, and ties to human smuggling.
And let’s not forget: these policies aren’t happening in a vacuum. The presence of illegal migrants like Garcia doesn’t just strain public resources. It impacts jobs, housing, schools, safety, and the future of communities across the country—including the very voters Van Hollen is supposed to represent in Maryland.
Poll after poll shows that a strong majority of Americans—across political lines—support speedy deportations of criminal illegal immigrants. They’re not asking for much: just for their leaders to enforce the law, protect families, and put American citizens first.
But rather than back that effort, Van Hollen and the Democrat machine want to protect people like Abrego Garcia from being exposed publicly—and keep ordinary Americans in the dark.
President Trump’s administration isn’t trying to distract anyone. They’re showing Americans exactly what the consequences of open borders and Democrat obstruction look like.
And if that makes some politicians uncomfortable?
Maybe they should take a long look in the mirror—and start asking who they’re really fighting for.
