In what’s becoming an increasingly bizarre and disturbing trend, four more Democrat lawmakers have traveled to El Salvador—not to address border security, human trafficking, or gang violence—but to advocate for the return of an alleged MS-13 gang member and accused wife-beater, Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
Joining Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), who already made headlines for his taxpayer-funded visit, Reps. Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ), Maxine Dexter (D-OR), Maxwell Frost (D-FL), and Robert Garcia (D-CA) landed in El Salvador this week on a mission: to pressure the Trump administration to allow Garcia back into the United States.
Yes, you read that right—four sitting members of Congress are actively working to bring back a man flagged by the Department of Homeland Security as both a violent gang member and an alleged domestic abuser.
Kilmar Abrego Garcia is not a U.S. citizen. He’s a Salvadoran national who illegally entered the United States over a decade ago. According to DHS, he is tied to MS-13, the infamous transnational gang known for brutal violence and criminal activity. On top of that, Garcia’s wife reportedly filed for an order of protection, accusing him of domestic abuse.
Despite this, Democrat lawmakers are portraying Garcia as a victim—framing his deportation as a constitutional crisis rather than a law enforcement matter.
The Democrat delegation’s trip was confirmed in a press release this week, which said the lawmakers traveled “to pressure the Trump Administration to abide by a Supreme Court order to facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.”
The statement even refers to Garcia as a “Maryland man,” sidestepping the fact that he’s in the U.S. illegally. They also claim they are advocating for “other detainees” allegedly being held “without due process.”
Importantly, this trip was not taxpayer-funded, thanks to House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-TN), who denied the request for it to be an official congressional delegation. However, Sen. Van Hollen’s earlier trip was funded by taxpayers—a fact he only admitted after returning to the U.S.
Leading the charge is Rep. Yassamin Ansari, a freshman Democrat whose parents emigrated from Iran. In a public statement, she invoked her family’s history:
“My parents fled an authoritarian regime in Iran where people were ‘disappeared’ – I refuse to sit back and watch it happen here, too. Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s illegal abduction and President Trump’s complete disregard of due process and a unanimous Supreme Court ruling are deeply disturbing.”
She added:
“I’m in El Salvador to advocate for the Trump Administration to facilitate his safe return home, and make sure Trump’s attack on our Constitution and due process stops now. Trump has already threatened to illegally deport ‘home-growns’ and American citizens.”
Ansari also claimed:
“If this can happen to Mr. Abrego Garcia, it can happen to any of us. This is a constitutional crisis.”
She posted a video to social media saying she’s there to “make sure Kilmar is still alive,” even though he was recently seen outside detention with Sen. Van Hollen.
Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA), who entered the U.S. illegally as a child from Peru, stated:
“I traveled to El Salvador to remind the American people that kidnapping immigrants and deporting them without due process is not how we do things in America.”
Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) took it a step further, accusing the Trump administration of running “a government-funded kidnapping program,” saying:
“Donald Trump and ICE are not above the law. Today it’s Kilmar, but tomorrow it could be anyone else. We cannot and will not let Donald Trump get away with this.”
Rep. Maxine Dexter (D-OR) echoed the same alarmist narrative:
“What happened to Kilmar Abrego Garcia is not just one family’s nightmare—it is a constitutional crisis that should outrage every single one of us.”
She added:
“We will not rest while due process is discarded, and our constitutional rights are ignored… if this can happen to Mr. Abrego Garcia, it can happen to anyone.”
Let’s be clear—this is a case where the Department of Homeland Security identified a potentially dangerous illegal alien with known gang affiliations and a history of violence. Law enforcement acted accordingly, and now Democrat lawmakers are flying to a foreign country to undo it.
Even worse, they’re framing it as a broader threat to American citizens and the Constitution itself—all while ignoring the safety of American women, disrespecting law enforcement, and defending someone tied to MS-13.
This story raises serious questions:
- Why are Democrats so committed to defending non-citizens with gang ties?
- Why are they flying across the globe to fight Trump rather than crime?
- And why are they so willing to distort our Constitution to do it?
If this can happen to an MS-13 member, what will Democrats defend next?
Stay tuned. This isn’t over.
