In a bold move to protect election integrity, President Donald Trump has ordered the Justice Department to launch an investigation into ActBlue — the Democratic Party’s biggest fundraising machine — over allegations of illegal campaign contributions.
On Thursday, Trump signed an executive order directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to begin a thorough probe into whether ActBlue has allowed “straw donors,” fake contributions, or even foreign donations to flood into Democrat campaign coffers.
The investigation will also involve the Treasury Department, and results are expected within 180 days.
“The Democrats’ Dark Money scam has gone on long enough,” said Republican National Committee Chair Michael Whatley in support of Trump’s order.
For years, ActBlue has been the Democrats’ go-to platform for raking in small-dollar donations from across the country — often with little oversight. In fact, the platform is so successful and aggressive in its fundraising tactics that Republicans were forced to build their own version, WinRed, to compete.
But now, the spotlight is on how ActBlue’s system is being used — and whether it’s been a vehicle for suspicious money to make its way into Democrat campaigns.
Democrats, clearly anticipating this move, immediately lashed out. In a strongly worded statement, ActBlue painted the order as an “oppressive use of power” by President Trump.
“The Trump Administration’s and GOP’s targeting of ActBlue is part of their brazen attack on democracy in America,” the platform said. “Donald Trump’s latest front in his campaign to stamp out all political, electoral and ideological opposition.”
ActBlue also said it will fight back, legally if necessary, claiming they provide a “safe, secure fundraising platform for millions of grassroots donors.”
On the Democrat leadership side, the fury was widespread. Top party figures like Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), and Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-WA) condemned the executive order.
“Donald Trump’s memorandum targeting ActBlue is designed to undermine democratic participation — and it’s no wonder why,” they claimed in a joint statement. “He’s trying to block lawful grassroots donations from supporters giving just $5 or $10.”
This isn’t the first time President Trump has used the power of the federal government to shine a light on shady behavior from his political enemies.
He’s previously revoked security clearances of partisan bureaucrats, pushed back on biased investigations, and even challenged law firms tied to special prosecutors who went after his administration.
Trump’s critics call it “retaliation.” His supporters call it necessary.
In the case of ActBlue, the allegations are serious. For years, conservative watchdogs have raised alarms about the lack of safeguards in online donation systems. Reports have suggested that elderly donors’ names are used to send hundreds of small, repeat donations they never authorized — sometimes linked to foreign IP addresses.
One report from the Washington Examiner in 2020 revealed some seniors found their names were used for dozens of small-dollar donations that they didn’t remember making — all funneled through ActBlue.
While Democrats continue to cry foul, President Trump is doubling down on his promise to bring transparency and accountability to America’s elections — and that means looking under the hood of the Democrat money machine.
Stay tuned. This investigation could blow the lid off some serious campaign finance abuse on the left.
