Trump to Sign Executive Order Reducing Cost of Prescription, Pharmaceutical Drug Prices

President Donald Trump revealed that he would be signing an executive order on Monday reducing the cost of prescription and pharmaceutical drugs by 30 to 80 percent. In a post on Truth Social, Trump pointed out that “for many years the World has wondered why” prescription and pharmaceutical drugs are so much more expensive in the U.S. than they are “in any other nation,” adding that sometimes they are “five to ten times more expensive than the same drug, manufactured in the exact same laboratory or plant, by the same company.” Trump also criticized the pharmaceutical and drug companies and the Democratic Party in his post. “The Pharmaceutical/Drug Companies would say, for years, that it was Research and Development Costs, and that all of these costs were, and would be, for no reason whatsoever, borne by the ‘suckers’ of America, ALONE,” Trump said. “Campaign Contributions can do wonders, but not with me, and not with the Republican Party. We are going to do the right thing, something that the Democrats have fought for many years.” “I am pleased to announce that Tomorrow morning, in the White House, at 9:00 A.M., I will be signing one of the most consequential Executive Orders in our Country’s history,” Trump said. “Prescription Drug and Pharmaceutical prices will be REDUCED, almost immediately, by 30% to 80%.” Trump added that the cost of prescription and pharmaceutical drugs would “rise throughout the World in order to equalize and, for the first time in many years, bring FAIRNESS TO AMERICA!” Enter your email address SUBSCRIBE By subscribing, you agree to our terms of use & privacy policy. A fact sheet from the White House in April revealed that Trump had signed an executive order directing the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) “to take steps to significantly reduce drug prices for American patients.” Trump’s executive order also “provides massive discounts to low-income patients for life-saving medications,” such as insulin and “helps states reduce drug prices” through the facilitation of “importation programs that could save states millions in prescription drug costs.”

President Donald Trump has once again set his sights on big reforms—and this time, he’s going after the pharmaceutical industry.

In a bold announcement on Truth Social, Trump revealed that he will sign a major executive order on Monday aimed at slashing the cost of prescription and pharmaceutical drugs in the United States by 30 to 80 percent. The move is being hailed by supporters as one of the most impactful health care measures in decades.

“Prescription Drug and Pharmaceutical prices will be REDUCED, almost immediately, by 30% to 80%,” Trump said.

Trump’s post addressed a long-standing question that’s frustrated millions of Americans: Why are medications in the U.S. dramatically more expensive than in other countries? Sometimes, Americans pay five to ten times more for the exact same drug made in the exact same facility by the same manufacturer—and Trump made it clear he’s had enough.

“For many years the World has wondered why Prescription and Pharmaceutical Drugs are so much more expensive in the U.S. than in any other nation,” Trump wrote. “Sometimes they are five to ten times more expensive than the same drug, manufactured in the exact same laboratory or plant, by the same company.”

Trump didn’t hold back in calling out the pharmaceutical giants and the politicians who’ve allowed this crisis to continue.

“The Pharmaceutical/Drug Companies would say, for years, that it was Research and Development Costs, and that all of these costs were, and would be, for no reason whatsoever, borne by the ‘suckers’ of America, ALONE,” he said.

And he didn’t stop there—he put Democrats on notice, saying they’ve spent years fighting efforts to bring these prices down.

“Campaign Contributions can do wonders, but not with me, and not with the Republican Party,” Trump said. “We are going to do the right thing, something that the Democrats have fought for many years.”

One of the biggest parts of Trump’s new plan is the Most-Favored Nation Policy—a policy that would force drugmakers to charge Americans no more than they charge the lowest-paying country in the world. For years, Americans have essentially subsidized cheaper drugs for other nations. Trump is saying: no more.

“I will be instituting a MOST FAVORED NATION’s POLICY whereby the United States will pay the same price as the Nation that pays the lowest price anywhere in the World,” Trump said. “Our country will finally be treated fairly, and our citizens’ Healthcare Costs will be reduced by numbers never even thought of before.”

Trump said the cost reduction would happen quickly—“almost immediately”—and that this isn’t just a handout. Prices around the world will rise to equalize global fairness, instead of Americans footing the bill for everyone else.

“The cost of prescription and pharmaceutical drugs will rise throughout the World in order to equalize and, for the first time in many years, bring FAIRNESS TO AMERICA!” Trump declared.

A fact sheet released by the White House in April previewed the plan, noting that Trump’s executive order would also include special help for low-income Americans, particularly those relying on life-saving medications like insulin. It also empowers individual states to launch their own drug importation programs, helping them find cost-effective ways to lower spending on prescription medications.

The order “provides massive discounts to low-income patients for life-saving medications” and “helps states reduce drug prices” through “importation programs that could save states millions.”

While past administrations have promised to address sky-high drug prices, Trump’s team is taking action—and taking on the very industries and lobbyists that profit from keeping things as they are.

If fully implemented, this executive order could mark a dramatic shift not just in health care policy—but in how America negotiates on the world stage.
