A growing number of white South African refugees — mostly Afrikaners — are expected to arrive in the United States in the coming months as they flee escalating racial and political violence in their homeland. According to a new report from the Daily Caller, “thousands” could be here by the end of summer, thanks to a move by the Trump administration to scale up acceptance of these persecuted families.
“We won’t be talking about dozens of arrivals, but hundreds and perhaps thousands,” a U.S. State Department official told the Daily Caller. The official added that the process will “massively scale up” in the “second half of summer.”
This comes after the first small group of 59 Afrikaners arrived in Washington, D.C., on May 12, welcomed by State Department officials. Behind them, however, is a massive backlog of over 50,000 applications — all from Afrikaners seeking refuge from South Africa’s ongoing political chaos, farm attacks, and targeted racial violence.
The Trump administration is making it clear: these aren’t just economic migrants — these are victims of real, violent persecution.
“People have suffered attacks on their farms that were racially motivated,” the State Department official confirmed. “Every Afrikaner who has been granted refugee status in the U.S. thus far has demonstrated a persecution claim.”
While the American media largely remains silent, President Donald Trump hasn’t shied away from the truth. At a White House press event, Trump slammed legacy outlets for ignoring the violence:
“It’s a genocide that’s taking place that you people don’t want to write about, but it’s a terrible thing that’s taking place, and farmers are being killed,” Trump said.
“They happen to be white, but whether they’re white or black makes no difference to me,” he continued. “But white farmers are being brutally killed, and their land is being confiscated in South Africa, and the newspapers and the media — television media — doesn’t even talk about it. If it were the other way around, they’d talk about it. That would be the only story they’d talk about.”
Trump’s remarks reflect what many conservatives see as a double standard in media coverage when it comes to race and persecution abroad. When white Christians are being attacked, the media goes silent.
South Africa’s government, led by President Cyril Ramaphosa, has downplayed the violence — and even mocked those seeking asylum.
“They are leaving because they don’t want to embrace the changes taking place in our country in accordance with our Constitution,” Ramaphosa said.
Ramaphosa even went so far as to call these refugees “cowardly” for “running away,” completely dismissing the repeated reports of farm murders and politically charged attacks.
Incredibly, Ramaphosa has even defended chants like “Kill the Boer” and “Kill the Farmer”, saying these hateful slogans fall under his country’s right to “freedom of expression.”
This kind of rhetoric has sent a clear message to white minorities in the country — and many are now choosing to flee for their lives.
For years, reports have circulated about South Africa’s growing violence against white farmers. Groups like AfriForum and others have documented attacks, murders, and land confiscation policies — all while the world looks the other way.
Yet now, under President Trump, the U.S. is responding. The refugee program is being ramped up to meet the massive demand.
This isn’t just about immigration. It’s about standing against racial violence, no matter who the victims are. It’s about recognizing real persecution and offering refuge to those who are in danger simply because of their heritage, faith, and political beliefs.
