Governor Gavin Newsom accused the administration of staging a “spectacle,” saying,
“The federal government is taking over the California National Guard and deploying 2,000 soldiers in Los Angeles — not because there is a shortage of law enforcement, but because they want a spectacle. Don’t give them one. Never use violence. Speak out peacefully.”
His comments ignored the growing lawlessness in his own state. While Newsom preached nonviolence, flames burned in the streets of his largest city, and law enforcement officers faced off against a crowd fueled by anti-American rhetoric and rage.
