The radical Left in Congress is once again showing its true colors—turning on Israel at a critical moment and echoing talking points that sound all too familiar from America’s enemies abroad.
After Israel launched targeted airstrikes on Iran late Thursday night—a move widely believed to have been a preemptive strike to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons—progressive House Democrats didn’t waste a moment to go on the offensive. But instead of condemning the tyrannical regime in Tehran, they aimed their outrage squarely at Israel.
Rep. Summer Lee of Pennsylvania took to X (formerly Twitter) and issued this fiery declaration:
“Israel’s strikes on Iran risk broader regional violence. Innocent civilians will be caught in the crossfire. We cannot allow a war criminal to drag American troops and resources into another endless war. Diplomacy is the only way forward.”
Yes, you read that right—an elected U.S. lawmaker calling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a ‘war criminal’, even as his country faces threats from a regime that has long vowed to “wipe Israel off the map.”
Lee wasn’t alone. Fellow Squad members, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), quickly piled on, suggesting that Israel’s self-defense could somehow entangle America in a war it doesn’t want.
Ilhan Omar, never shy about vilifying Israel, posted:
“Just as talks with Iran were set to resume, Netanyahu launches a strike and declares a state of emergency. He is provoking a war Americans don’t want. We should not allow ourselves to be dragged into yet another conflict, against our will, by a foreign leader pursuing his own agenda of death and destruction.”
That quote is telling. It shows how far removed these progressives are from reality—or from any understanding of America’s national interests. Israel, our staunchest ally in the Middle East, isn’t just fighting for its survival—it’s acting to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
Why did Israel act now? According to several intelligence reports, Iran was allegedly on the verge of completing its nuclear program—one that could produce a weapon capable of threatening Israel’s existence and destabilizing the entire region.
As Breitbart News reported, this isn’t an isolated event. It comes months after the October 2023 terrorist assault by Hamas on Israeli civilians, which was cheered by supporters of Iran’s regime. Crowds in Tehran flooded the streets chanting “Death to Israel” and “Death to America” while innocent Israelis were murdered or kidnapped.
That’s the context far-left Democrats seem to ignore—or worse, downplay.
In contrast to the Squad’s knee-jerk outrage, President Donald Trump offered a thoughtful take on the matter, suggesting the Israeli action might pressure Iran into real negotiations.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump wrote that Iran now has a:
“second chance” to come to the table after Israel’s strikes.
Trump, who has long favored a strong but calculated foreign policy, made clear that diplomacy remains the preferred option—but not the only one.
Back in office or out, Trump has repeatedly stated that while he seeks peace through strength, America will not stand by while a hostile regime builds a nuclear arsenal.
Despite the facts, Democrats like Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) painted a bizarre picture. Speaking on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Murphy accused Israel of intentionally undermining diplomatic efforts.
“It appears as if this was an attempt by Israel to scuttle Donald Trump’s negotiations with Iran,” he claimed.
This kind of rhetoric feeds a disturbing pattern: progressive Democrats increasingly treating America’s enemies with kid gloves, while blasting our allies.
Let’s be clear. Iran is a theocratic dictatorship that sponsors terrorism across the globe, threatens U.S. soldiers, funds Hezbollah and Hamas, and has spent decades trying to build a bomb. Yet it’s Israel—the democracy defending itself from annihilation—that progressive Democrats label as the threat?
As The Federalist highlighted in a similar critique, this reflexive anti-Israel stance within the Left is nothing new. They’ve tried to frame every Israeli counterstrike as “aggression” while conveniently ignoring Iran’s years of missile attacks, hostage-taking, and proxy terror groups.
The bigger question Americans should ask is this: why are elected officials working harder to defend Iran than our allies? When members of Congress call an ally’s leader a “war criminal” for defending their people from nuclear annihilation, it raises serious concerns.
Do they really think Israel should wait to be struck before defending itself? Do they believe Iran can be trusted with nuclear technology? Or are they simply so blinded by their hatred of Netanyahu—and perhaps Trump—that they’re willing to risk U.S. security to make a political point?
One thing is clear: with the world becoming more dangerous by the day, America needs strength and clarity, not woke slogans and reckless tweets.
