In a major milestone for border security, not a single illegal migrant was released into the U.S. during the month of May — a stunning reversal from the more than 60,000 releases under President Biden just one year ago.
According to a report by the New York Post, U.S. Border Patrol apprehended 8,725 illegal migrants in May 2025 at the southern border. But unlike past years under Democrat leadership, none of those individuals were released into the interior of the United States.
This amounts to a 93% drop in illegal releases compared to May 2024, when tens of thousands of migrants were allowed into the country without detention.
Acting Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Pete Flores praised the results, crediting the policies of President Donald Trump.
“Under the leadership of this administration, CBP has received historic support resulting in another 93% decrease in illegal crossings along the southwest border this month when compared with last year,” Flores told the Post.
Flores’ comments echo what many conservatives have long said: when America enforces the law and secures the border, illegal crossings drop dramatically.
This is a stark contrast to the chaos under Joe Biden, where Border Patrol was routinely overwhelmed and thousands of illegal immigrants were bussed and flown across the country with little accountability.
As Breitbart News reported earlier this year, President Trump’s former border czar Tom Homan explained how Biden’s administration intentionally released millions of illegal immigrants into American communities.
“They did it on purpose,” Homan emphasized, accusing Biden officials of undermining immigration law for political gain.
He noted that instead of placing migrants in detention beds — where their asylum claims could be quickly reviewed and false claims dismissed — the Biden administration paid for $500-a-night hotel rooms, dragging cases out for years and hoping to grant them amnesty under future Democrat rule.
“You put them in ICE detention bed, they get a hearing in 35 days… But release them and put them in a hotel room… their hearings could be 5, 7, 9 years,” Homan said.
The difference now? The Trump administration has made it clear: no release, no reward.
Instead of handing out court dates years down the line, migrants are now detained immediately. That not only stops them from repaying smugglers, but also sends a clear message to others thinking about crossing: don’t try it.
This “detain and deter” approach has made a measurable impact. Breitbart reported in May that migrant apprehensions fell nearly 13% in April, and more than 95% compared to the previous year.
Conservative leaders are celebrating the numbers as proof that President Trump’s “America First” border strategy works.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) responded to the New York Post’s report on X, writing:
“PROMISES MADE, PROMISES KEPT. Another CLEAR example of strong, America First Leadership by @POTUS.”
Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who has been fighting tooth and nail to secure his state’s southern border, chimed in:
“Trump – 0. Biden – 64,000. Incredible. THIS is what real leadership looks like on the border.”
For years, conservatives have sounded the alarm: open borders empower cartels, fuel human trafficking, and weaken national security. Under Biden, those warnings were ignored — and the result was record-breaking border chaos.
Now, under President Trump’s renewed leadership, we’re witnessing exactly what happens when America takes its sovereignty seriously.
Zero releases. Enforcement restored. Confidence rebuilding.
This isn’t just a political win — it’s a long-overdue victory for American families, law enforcement, and national security.
