Another day, another Democrat meltdown on MSNBC.
This time, it’s Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) throwing accusations at President Donald Trump over the U.S. military’s precision strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. In a Tuesday interview on MSNBC’s “The Weeknight”, Castro claimed Trump was “lying” and “exaggerating” the damage done to Iran’s nuclear program after the recent airstrikes.
“It’s my belief, after looking at everything, that the president lied about the amount of damage that was done,” Castro said.
That’s a bold accusation—especially coming from a member of Congress who serves on the House Intelligence Committee and isn’t permitted to publicly disclose classified assessments. But his comments are right in line with what we’ve come to expect from the left: discredit Trump at all costs, even when it means undermining America’s military victories.
Last week, President Trump ordered massive, high-precision airstrikes on three major Iranian nuclear facilities: Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz. These sites, deeply fortified and hidden beneath mountains, were struck with the most powerful conventional weapon in the U.S. arsenal — the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator, also known as the “bunker buster.”
Trump later posted on Truth Social, declaring:
“The damage to the Nuclear sites in Iran is said to be ‘monumental.’ The hits were hard and accurate. Great skill was shown by our military. Thank you!”
Multiple conservative outlets like Breitbart News and The Federalist have reported on the success of the operation, noting that while some damage assessments vary on the extent of destruction at each site, the Fordow facility was rendered inoperable, and Iran’s nuclear program has suffered a major setback.
During his MSNBC appearance, Castro tried to rewrite history, blaming Trump for the Iran situation altogether:
“We had an agreement with Iran to contain their nuclear weapons program… When Donald Trump became president, he took us out of that agreement.”
Let’s unpack that.
The Obama-era Iran Nuclear Deal (JCPOA) was deeply flawed from the beginning — something Trump and conservatives warned about for years. It allowed Iran to continue enrichment, provided a sunset clause, and handed over billions of dollars in sanctions relief with no permanent restrictions. It was not ratified as a treaty and had no reliable enforcement.
When President Trump pulled out of the deal in 2018, he did so to reimpose strong sanctions and prevent Iran from using the deal as a cover to build nuclear weapons. In short: Trump was putting American and Israeli security first — not appeasing a terrorist-sponsoring regime.
While Castro claims Trump exaggerated the strike’s impact, even U.S. and Israeli defense officials have confirmed to media outlets like the New York Times that the strikes severely damaged Fordow, even if the site wasn’t entirely “obliterated.”
A senior U.S. official noted the damage was so significant it had effectively taken Fordow “off the table” — a major win for American national security.
Meanwhile, Iran’s response has been telling: They’ve stepped back from full retaliation, their nuclear program has been scrambled, and even their allies are urging caution.
In contrast, Vice President JD Vance praised the mission, telling Fox News that Trump had “obliterated the Iranian nuclear program” without a single American casualty — a feat no Democrat president in modern history can claim.
Instead of celebrating a bold, successful move to eliminate a major threat to the U.S. and its allies, Rep. Castro is using his platform to smear the commander-in-chief. It’s the same tired tactic we’ve seen since 2016: Trump wins, and the Left runs to the cameras to cry foul.
But Americans saw what happened. Trump acted decisively, with strength and precision, and sent a loud and clear message to Iran: Don’t test us.
That’s what leadership looks like — and no amount of MSNBC spin will change it.
