Axios Releases Audio Showing Biden Struggling with Memory in Interview with Robert Hur

Newly released audio obtained by Axios has reignited concerns about President Joe Biden’s mental fitness, confirming what many Americans already suspected: Biden struggled significantly with his memory during his interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur.

This bombshell audio reveals Biden’s frequent confusion — including forgetting when his son Beau passed away and mixing up the year Donald Trump was elected. The recording stems from Biden’s interview in relation to his mishandling of classified documents, and it confirms what was already detailed in the transcript released earlier this year.

Here’s what was heard in the now-public exchange between Biden and Hur, and why it matters more than ever.

In the audio, Special Counsel Hur presses Biden about where he kept sensitive documents while living at his residence on Chain Bridge Road. Biden, noticeably uncertain, stumbles through his response:

“Well… I, I, I, I, I, I don’t know. This is what — 2017, 2018, that area?” Biden replied.

Hur confirmed the time frame, prompting Biden to bring up his late son Beau, who tragically passed from brain cancer in 2015. But Biden appeared to forget the date:

“Remember, in this time frame, my son is either been deployed or is dying,” Biden said.
“What month did Beau die? Oh, God, May 30? Was it 2015 he died? I think it’s 2015.”

At another point, Biden fumbled the date of Trump’s first election, asking:

“Trump gets elected in November of 2017?”

In reality, President Trump won the election in November 2016 and was inaugurated in January 2017.

Back in February 2024, Special Counsel Robert Hur released a report explaining his decision not to prosecute Biden for mishandling classified documents. While confirming that Biden “willfully retained” classified materials, Hur declined to bring charges — and gave a striking reason why:

“We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” Hur’s report stated.

Exclusive: Axios obtained the audio of Robert Hur's 2023 interviews of Biden which show repeated mental lapses as he struggles to remember words & dates amid long, uncomfortable pauses.

According to the report, classified documents were found in seven different locations, including Biden’s garage, private office, and other unsecured areas. Despite these facts, Biden avoided charges — not because he was innocent, but because Hur believed jurors would likely sympathize with his age and mental state.

The release of this audio is making waves because the Biden administration had previously blocked it. In May 2024, Biden invoked executive privilege to stop House Republicans from obtaining the recordings of his interview with Hur.

House Republicans sought the recordings as part of their investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents, only to be met with stonewalling from the White House.

Now that the audio is public, critics are questioning why the administration worked so hard to keep this material hidden. If there was nothing to hide, why the secrecy?

This isn’t just about classified documents — it’s about whether the man currently holding the most powerful office in the world is mentally fit to do the job.

The fact that Biden couldn’t remember key life events — including the death of his own son and the year Trump was elected — raises serious alarms. These weren’t small slip-ups. They came during a federal investigation where precision and clarity were critical.

At the same time, the double standard is impossible to ignore. President Trump faces relentless prosecution over his handling of documents, yet Biden is painted as a harmless, forgetful grandpa — and let off the hook.

The newly released audio adds undeniable weight to the argument that Joe Biden is not mentally sharp enough to continue leading this country. While the media and the Left continue to downplay the issue, this recording speaks volumes — literally.

As the 2024 election looms closer and Biden seeks another term, the question is no longer just about policy. It’s about basic competency. And the American people have every right to demand answers.
