President Donald Trump made headlines Wednesday night—not just for attending a performance of his favorite musical, Les Misérables, but for sparking a dramatic scene at the Kennedy Center. As he took his seat, several drag queens in the audience stood up and booed him, clearly aiming to make a political statement during what was supposed to be a night of art and culture.
But the protests didn’t stop in the audience.
According to reports from CNN and Consequence, roughly a dozen members of the Les Misérables touring cast decided to boycott an upcoming June 11th performance, simply because Trump would be in the building for a fundraiser. Rather than perform the musical’s iconic number, “One Day More,” the protesters opted to stage “one day less”—skipping the show altogether.
In other words: cancel culture hit Broadway.
This marks President Trump’s first visit to the Kennedy Center since his second inauguration. And while the far-left cast and activist crowd staged their tantrums, the president didn’t flinch. In fact, this visit symbolized a much larger shake-up of the arts scene in Washington, D.C.—a shake-up that Trump himself is leading.
Back in February, Trump was named Chairman of the Kennedy Center, after President Deborah Rutter was let go. His appointment was followed by the naming of Richard Grenell, a trusted Trump ally and former ambassador to Germany, as interim president. Grenell has been vocal about redirecting the Kennedy Center toward American family values—away from the political activism and drag shows that had become common under left-wing leadership.
As Breitbart News previously reported, Trump didn’t hold back after taking charge of the Center:
“Just last year, the Kennedy Center featured Drag Shows specifically targeting our youth — THIS WILL STOP,” Trump said in a powerful message. “The Kennedy Center is an American Jewel, and must reflect the brightest STARS on its stage from all across our Nation. For the Kennedy Center, THE BEST IS YET TO COME!”
Unsurprisingly, liberal elites in the entertainment industry are having a meltdown.
Superstar soprano Renée Fleming, Broadway mogul Lin-Manuel Miranda, and lead producer Jeffrey Seller are among the big names who’ve thrown a fit over Trump’s leadership. Fleming has cut ties with the Kennedy Center, and Miranda pulled a scheduled performance of Hamilton, claiming:
“The Kennedy Center was not created in this spirit, and we’re not going to be a part of it while it is the Trump Kennedy Center.”
Seller added:
“[Trump] took away our national arts center for all of us.”
But many Americans would argue the opposite—that President Trump is returning the Kennedy Center to all Americans, not just those who use it as a stage for progressive virtue-signaling and identity politics.
Instead of taxpayer-funded drag shows for children, Trump is making it clear that he wants the Center to honor American tradition, culture, and excellence.
The backlash he’s receiving from drag queens and liberal performers may be loud—but it’s predictable. It’s the same kind of outrage that erupts anytime President Trump does something that puts America, its families, and its values first.
Despite the drama, one thing’s clear: Trump’s presence at the Kennedy Center is a sign of strength—and he’s not backing down.
Time to COMPLETELY clean house !!!
