During a recent MSNBC discussion on gun control in the wake of the Minneapolis shooting, the conversation took a sharp turn that should concern every defender of the Second Amendment. The Trace reporter Mike Spies openly suggested that any effective plan to reduce gun violence would require restrictions that go far beyond so-called “assault weapons”—even reaching into bans on handguns.
The Trace, an outlet dedicated to pushing gun control, was represented on a roundtable with MSNBC’s Katy Tur. Tur declared, “The majority of Americans don’t own guns and the majority of Americans want stricter gun laws.” Yet she offered no evidence for the claim, overlooking the hard fact that firearms in civilian hands topped 490 million as of 2022—a number that makes clear gun ownership is more deeply embedded in American life than media narratives suggest.
Spies quickly agreed with Tur and lamented what he called a lack of knowledge among lawmakers. He argued that the debate has been stuck in the same place since the 1990s background check push and the failed “assault weapons” ban. Then he dropped the line that reveals where gun-control activists truly want to take the country: “You have to be honest, and say what will actually work, which is what nobody wants to hear, which is that there are just simply way too many firearms, and they are way too accessible.”
Tur cut in: “And they’re way too powerful?”
Spies answered without hesitation: “And they’re too powerful, even handguns too, again, that’s why in Australia … The only thing that really works, if you really wanted to bring down gun violence, was to do what Australia did and to do what many other countries in Europe do.”
That reference to Australia is telling. In 1996, Australia instituted a mandatory buyback program that stripped law-abiding citizens of hundreds of thousands of privately owned firearms. The result wasn’t a surge in safety, but rather a government seizure of private property and the disarming of citizens who had done nothing wrong. Many progressives now hold that model up as the “solution” for America.
The implications are clear: what begins as talk of “reasonable reforms” inevitably drifts toward sweeping confiscation. Gun control activists have admitted as much in moments like this, and the MSNBC exchange is a reminder that handguns—the most common and practical tool for self-defense—are firmly in their sights.
For conservatives, the warning is unmistakable. Every new call for “commonsense gun safety” isn’t about safety at all. It’s about eroding the right to defend one’s family, property, and liberty—a right enshrined in the Constitution and supported by hundreds of millions of Americans who believe security begins at home, not with bureaucrats in Washington.

The War of Independence started when the British marched to Lexington and Concord to confiscate their guns and the Colonists fought back, many British soldiers died and the Revolutionary War began. I’ve heard people say that if our government tries to confiscate guns that they should send bachelors and body bags. Many people will not willingly give up their guns so it will be very bloody on both sides. With approximately 140 million gun owners, if only 10% take up arms against the government, that leaves an army of 14 million. This would make every politician fair game and any police and military who do the “governments” bidding targets, assuming they even comply with these Unconstitutional orders fair game as well.
Totally knew that they would go there! What’s the number one reason to create a FF event? To push their narrative of what happens when you don’t do what they want you to do! Now…listen to us…this is what we want! Yes, they create these events, some fake and some very lethal. Most of them for gun control to disarm the population. Haven’t they learned by now that Americans will never give up their freedom?
We’re not buying into your staged events with crisis actors, your paid protesters or your false God and satanic leaders who are embedded in our government!
We’re through with the lies and deception and we will fight! You will not destroy our nation or our faith in God. We welcome God back as past leaders who shunned him for distasteful pleasures and murderous attempts on us,his children. I might not be the best Christian but I’m a believer of good and evil.
