At a time when patriotism is often sidelined in favor of trendy activism, one congressman is boldly drawing a line in the sand — and doing it with the Stars and Stripes firmly in hand.
Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) is leading a renewed charge in Congress to officially designate July as “American Pride Month”, a patriotic tribute to our nation’s heroes, values, and founding ideals. It’s a powerful response to what Hunt calls the “hijacking” of America’s identity by niche cultural movements and progressive agendas.
“America is tired. Tired of cultural tribalism, tired of performative virtue-signaling, and tired of watching our national identity hijacked by agendas that cater to a loud but narrow minority,” Hunt told Breitbart News.
Hunt is set to reintroduce a resolution Tuesday in the House of Representatives that he first brought forward in 2023. The measure seeks to formally reclaim July — the month of America’s founding — as a time to honor our nation, its defenders, and the principles that have guided it from 1776 to today.
“If corporations and left-wing activists can co-opt June to promote their ideology under the banner of ‘Pride Month,’ then surely July, the month of our founding, can and must be reclaimed to honor something far greater: American Pride Month,” Hunt said.
This isn’t about exclusion. It’s about re-centering the conversation around the values that unify us — freedom, sacrifice, and the enduring spirit of the American people.
Hunt’s proposal isn’t just symbolic. It highlights:
- America’s exceptionalism, from the Revolutionary War to today.
- Tributes to patriots such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Rosa Parks, and the Buffalo Soldiers.
- Appreciation for U.S. veterans, civil rights pioneers, and space trailblazers.
- A renewed call to teach American history based on enduring truths — not fleeting cultural fads.
It echoes President Reagan’s farewell address urging Americans to pass down what truly matters, not what’s fashionable in elite circles.
“This initiative… was born out of a desire to celebrate the extraordinary individuals and timeless values that have defined our republic, from the patriots of 1776 to the leaders of today who continue to defend freedom and preserve our way of life,” Hunt said.
Hunt’s resolution also includes a direct appeal to President Donald Trump to formalize “American Pride Month” through an official proclamation.
“No president in our history understands the value of patriotism and passing that down more than President Trump,” Hunt declared.
It’s a nod to Trump’s unshakable focus on America First values and his unrelenting defense of U.S. culture and heritage — even when critics howled from the sidelines.
This push couldn’t come at a more critical time. A recent Gallup poll shows American pride has hit a record low, especially among younger generations and Democrats. Meanwhile, Republican pride remains strong, highlighting a growing cultural divide.
Hunt’s effort is a rallying cry to restore unity, responsibility, and reverence for our shared American identity — especially for the next generation.
“From sea to shining sea, let’s make patriotism cool again,” Hunt said. “Let’s not just celebrate freedom on the 4th of July, let’s honor our founding, our flag, and our future every single day throughout this sacred month.”
To bring that vision to life, Hunt will be releasing a new patriotic video each day in July, kicking off with a special preview shared with Breitbart News. It’s part of a grassroots push that began in 2022 and continues to build steam among conservatives who feel it’s time to push back — not with anger, but with honor, truth, and American pride.
In an era where cultural movements often drown out common sense, Hunt’s message is refreshingly simple: America is worth celebrating — not just for a day, but for a month, and for generations to come.
