FBI joins nationwide manhunt for CEO’s killer, as reward swells to $60K

Law enforcement is offering a staggering $60,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the shocking murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Here’s what happened:

In a chilling and targeted attack, Thompson was fatally shot outside a Manhattan hotel early Wednesday morning. The 50-year-old executive was in town for UnitedHealth’s annual investors conference, staying just steps away from the Hilton where the event was being held.

The details are as mysterious as they are unsettling. Investigators found shell casings at the scene with cryptic words etched on them—“deny,” “depose,” and “defend”—possibly referencing the book Delay, Deny, Defend, which critiques insurance industry practices. It’s fueling speculation that resentment over a denied claim might have driven this act of violence.

The FBI, now joining the NYPD in the investigation, has upped the reward to $50,000, adding to the NYPD’s initial $10,000. Surveillance footage suggests the suspect, who traveled to NYC from Atlanta before the attack, may have fled back to Georgia.

Authorities are following leads, analyzing new surveillance footage from Manhattan’s Upper West Side, and asking the public for help.
