Reports claims that the FBI is investigating a secret “honeypot” operation that allegedly targeted Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. According to the Washington Times, FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino are searching for two female agents who were involved in an “off-the-books” investigation initiated by former FBI Director James Comey in 2015.
The term “honeypot” refers to undercover operatives—typically women—who feign romantic or sexual interest to extract information from a target. A whistleblower, identified as an FBI agent, disclosed that Comey personally directed this secret investigation, which reportedly aimed to gather incriminating information on Trump rather than pursue a specific crime.
This investigation was allegedly separate from Crossfire Hurricane, the FBI’s official probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election. During Trump’s presidency, he ordered the declassification of more documents related to Crossfire Hurricane, emphasizing transparency regarding FBI operations.
If true, these allegations could fuel ongoing debates about political bias within federal agencies and their role in election-related investigations.
