On a recent episode of The Alex Marlow Show, Breitbart Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow raised a bold and thought-provoking topic that’s not getting enough attention: the growing need for the United States to reassert its influence across the North American continent—especially in Canada—as a way to protect national interests and counter rising threats from China.
Speaking candidly on his weekday podcast, Marlow argued that “expanding is good, in general,” and said that a stronger U.S. presence in Canada could serve as a major check against Chinese ambitions, particularly in the Arctic region. Canada currently holds key territory in the Arctic, an area where China has been increasingly active—despite having no geographical claim to it.
“Ensuring the U.S. controls the whole continent and can push back against Chinese influence in Canada would be positive,” Marlow said. He emphasized that this isn’t just about politics—it’s about securing the future of the American people in an increasingly hostile global environment.
Marlow’s comments underscore a growing concern among security experts: China’s increasing interest in the Arctic. Though the Arctic might seem remote, it holds vast untapped energy reserves, rare minerals, and new shipping routes that are opening due to melting ice. And while China is far from being an Arctic nation, it has labeled itself a “near-Arctic state” and is aggressively working to build influence in the region—often by partnering with or pressuring countries like Canada.
Marlow pointed out that this encroachment could pose real risks to the U.S. and our allies, especially as global tensions with Beijing continue to rise.
Marlow didn’t stop at the Arctic. He also touched on the growing demand for energy in the U.S.—especially as technology like artificial intelligence (AI) continues to expand rapidly. The AI boom, he said, is going to require massive energy resources to power data centers, servers, and networks.
That’s where Canada, in Marlow’s view, has not been the most helpful.
“Canada has typically… not been helpful in this regard,” he said, referring to the country’s restrictive energy policies and resistance to building pipelines or increasing oil and gas exports. While Canada has abundant natural resources, including oil in Alberta and hydroelectric power in Quebec, left-leaning policies from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government have limited their potential as an energy partner for the U.S.
Marlow’s comments reflect a larger, growing belief among conservatives: that the U.S. cannot afford to take a back seat when it comes to defending its hemisphere from foreign influence, especially from Communist China. With President Joe Biden’s foreign policy widely criticized as weak or directionless, some are calling for more aggressive strategies to secure American interests at home and abroad.
The idea of expanding influence in Canada may seem unconventional to some, but it aligns with a longstanding principle of U.S. policy: keep hostile powers out of the Western Hemisphere. The Monroe Doctrine, after all, was built on the idea that foreign powers—particularly authoritarian regimes—have no place meddling in the Americas.
As Marlow continues to use his platform to spark bold conversations, many on the right are tuning in not just to hear the news, but to imagine what bold leadership could look like in an era of global uncertainty.
