The House of Representatives has taken decisive action against Rep. Al Green (D-TX) following his disorderly conduct during President Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night. In a 211-209 vote, the House moved forward with the censure process after Green was forcibly removed from the chamber by the House Sergeant at Arms for refusing to adhere to House decorum.
The disruption occurred as Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) had to step in to restore order after Democratic lawmakers engaged in unruly behavior during Trump’s speech. As Breitbart News’ Bradley Jaye previously reported, Johnson made an initial warning, reminding members to “observe House decorum” and cease any disruptions.
“Mr. President, members are directed to uphold and maintain decorum in the House and to cease any further disruptions,” Johnson declared.
However, the warnings were ignored, leading Johnson to take further action. He announced that he was “prepared to direct the Sergeant at Arms to restore order to the joint session.” Despite repeated calls for Green to take his seat, the congressman continued his disruptive behavior, forcing Johnson to instruct the Sergeant at Arms to remove him from the chamber.
“Finding that members continue to engage in willful and concerted disruption of proper decorum, the Chair now directs the Sergeant at Arms to restore order,” Johnson stated.
Following Green’s removal, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) introduced a resolution to censure him for his conduct. The resolution reads:
“Whereas, the conduct of the Representative from Texas disrupted the proceedings of the joint address and was a breach of proper conduct; and whereas, after numerous disruptions the representative from Texas had to be removed from the chamber by the Sergeant at Arms; Now, therefore, be it resolved that Representative Al Green be censured.”
Democrats attempted to table the resolution—known as H. Res. 189—but their efforts failed. The vote to proceed with the censure marks a strong rebuke of Green’s actions and sets a precedent for maintaining proper conduct in the halls of Congress.
With the censure process now moving forward, Green faces official condemnation from the House for his behavior. A censure, while largely symbolic, serves as a formal reprimand and could have lasting political consequences.
This move underscores the ongoing tensions in Congress as Republicans push back against what they see as increasing hostility and disorder from the left. Meanwhile, Democrats continue to resist Trump’s policies, sometimes resorting to tactics that disrupt the legislative process.
As the debate continues, one thing is clear—House Republicans are committed to upholding decorum and ensuring that Congress remains a place for serious and respectful debate, not chaotic outbursts.
Stay tuned for updates as the censure process unfolds.
Mr. Al Green should be commended for his actions. More politicians should follow his lead. STAND UP TO THE TYRANNY!!!
