Federal immigration agents in Chicago endured two violent vehicular assaults in a single day — the latest sign of lawlessness spreading under Illinois’s sanctuary policies.
In one incident, an illegal alien rammed an ICE vehicle in Bensenville before fleeing into a home. The attack came just hours after a separate ICE vehicle was surrounded and struck in nearby Broadview. According to the Department of Homeland Security, assaults on federal agents have skyrocketed by more than 1,000 percent in recent months — a surge officials say is fueled by politicians who “demonize ICE” and embolden illegal aliens to resist arrest.
Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin condemned the escalating violence:
“This is exactly what happens when Governor Pritzker, Mayor Johnson, and other sanctuary politicians encourage illegal aliens to resist law enforcement,” she said. “Thankfully, none of our officers were killed.”
In one case, Mexican national Miguel Escareno De Loera rammed his car into an ICE vehicle twice before crashing into a stop sign and being arrested. In another, Guatemalan national Widman Osberto Lopez-Funes rammed agents during an enforcement operation, then barricaded himself in a nearby residence. Both face federal assault charges.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott quickly responded, offering his state’s National Guard to help restore order in Chicago.
“You can either fully enforce protection for federal employees,” Abbott wrote, “or get out of the way and let the Texas Guard do it.”
The attacks underscore a growing concern within federal law enforcement: sanctuary city policies are not just undermining immigration enforcement — they’re putting American officers directly in harm’s way.
