Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) is taking the sanctuary state experiment to an alarming new level — suggesting that Democrats may soon try to prosecute federal law enforcement officers for doing their jobs.
In a stunning interview with FOX 32 Chicago, Pritzker proposed criminal charges against Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials for arresting illegal aliens in Illinois — a state that proudly shields them from deportation.
“The tables will turn one day,” Pritzker told reporter Paris Schutz. “These people should recognize that maybe they’re not gonna get prosecuted today, although we’re looking at doing that, but they may get prosecuted after the Trump administration because the statute of limitations would not have run out.”
Pritzker went on to confirm that he’s been in discussions with Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul (D) and other state attorneys about launching a potential criminal probe targeting federal officers. “We’re talking to the state’s attorneys and Attorney General to see how they can go at this because what we want to make sure is that they follow the law,” he said.
It’s a remarkable statement — and one that lays bare how far the left is willing to go to weaponize state power against federal authority when it suits their politics. The same leaders who refuse to uphold immigration law now claim the moral high ground by threatening those who do.
Pritzker accused former President Donald Trump of “causing mayhem in the grounds of our state,” claiming ICE’s enforcement of federal law was part of an “authoritarian” push. “So this is a dangerous time,” Pritzker said. “The President of the United States is causing mayhem in the grounds of our state. He is going after his political opponents. I don’t know why anybody would look at the situation and not recognize he’s moving toward an authoritarian regime in his own image.”
Critics see something very different: a governor turning his back on public safety and the rule of law, even as illegal immigration continues to strain schools, hospitals, and law enforcement. The idea of prosecuting ICE agents — men and women enforcing duly enacted federal statutes — signals just how politicized the immigration debate has become under progressive leadership.
Trump’s former border czar, Tom Homan, blasted the remarks, telling Breitbart News that Democrats like Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) should be ashamed of themselves. “Whether it’s Pritzker, Newsom, Bass, or Brandon Johnson, you’re welcome for us making your communities safer,” Homan said. “If you want to sit on the sidelines and watch us make your communities safer, have at it. Shame on you.”
For many conservatives, Pritzker’s comments underscore a deeper problem: state officials using taxpayer resources to obstruct federal law instead of cooperating to secure the border. Illinois, like several other blue states, continues to funnel millions into programs supporting illegal immigrants while ignoring the growing public costs — from overwhelmed shelters to rising crime tied to border failures.
As of October 1, ICE agents have arrested more than 800 illegal aliens across Illinois, removing individuals who often have prior criminal convictions or active deportation orders. Instead of applauding those efforts, Pritzker seems intent on punishing the very officers who keep his communities safe.
For taxpayers and law-abiding residents, the message from Springfield couldn’t be clearer: the political class is protecting illegal immigrants while targeting the people sworn to protect you.
The left seems to be determined to push us into a civil war.
To paraphrase a Minute Man at Concord/Lexington, ” If they mean to have a war, let it start now”. I don’t want my grandchildren, or yours, to have to fight this one. That being said. I really hope “Fat Bastard” Pritzker is not stupid enough to try this stunt, unless he’s the only one going to execute such an idiotic order. Seems the people with the biggest mouth start these kinds of conflicts, then sit back and let others pay the price for their actions.
