I’ve got some heartwarming news to share! Yesterday, American reporter Evan Gershkovich and Marine veteran Paul Whelan were among four former prisoners released from Russia. They finally set foot on American soil again Thursday night.
Their plane landed at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, where President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris greeted them on the tarmac. President Biden warmly welcomed them, saying, “Welcome home. There’s nothing beyond our capacity if we work together. Nothing…we’re the United States of America.”
The group included Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, veteran Paul Whelan, Alsu Kurmasheva, and American green-card holder Vladimir Kara-Murza. While the quartet didn’t speak to reporters, they were greeted with hugs and warm embraces from loved ones. Gershkovich was seen hugging several people, possibly colleagues from the Wall Street Journal.
Next on their journey, the newly-released prisoners are scheduled to fly to San Antonio, Texas, for further medical evaluation.
Vice President Harris also addressed reporters, stating, “This is an extraordinary day. I’m very thankful for our president and what he has done. This is an incredible day, and you can see it in the families.”
