Imagine this: a sweet grandmother chatting on the phone about her adorable cat, Fluffy, or her latest knitting project. But instead of a cozy conversation with her grandchild, she’s keeping a phone scammer on the line for 40 minutes. Meet Daisy—the AI bot disguised as your lovable granny, and she’s here to waste scammers’ time.
Developed by British mobile company O2, Daisy (stylized dAIsy to highlight her AI smarts) is a champion in the fight against fraudsters. Her mission? To turn the tables on scammers by keeping them so busy, they don’t have time to target actual victims.
Here’s how she does it:
- Daisy keeps the scammers engaged with heartfelt stories about her cat, Fluffy, and her love for knitting.
- She even offers fake bank details, throwing fraudsters into a spiral of frustration.
- Some of her calls have stretched up to 40 minutes—a small eternity in scammer time!
Since her launch in November, Daisy has already wasted hundreds of hours of these fraudsters’ time, exposing their dirty tricks in the process.
According to Murray Mackenzie, director of fraud at Virgin Media O2, Daisy is “outsmarting and outmaneuvering scammers at their own cruel game.” And let’s be honest—there’s something wonderfully poetic about an AI pretending to be a sweet grandma, leaving scammers fuming on the other end of the line.
