“I actually voted for her years ago for Senate, believe it or not, because… I’m gonna be honest. I liked that she was a woman. I liked that she was of color,” Michaels shared. But as time has passed, Michaels feels let down by what she sees as a lack of significant accomplishments from Harris.
“But since then, I’m underwhelmed by what she’s done. Like, if we’re just looking at what she’s done, I don’t really understand what the major accomplishments are,” she continued.
Michaels didn’t hold back when discussing how Harris ended up on the Democratic ticket without winning any primary votes. She compared it to the controversy surrounding January 6th, suggesting that both sides of the political spectrum are guilty of manipulating the system. “So she didn’t get one vote. Not one vote. Not one. Again, I’m not a politician. I’m just a regular person. But this is why you’re like, ‘Well, that’s alarming. Oh, God.’ But over here I’m like, ‘Well, that’s alarming.’ She didn’t get one vote. She was like, how do we get here? She’s being put in that role by very powerful corporate interests.”
Michaels voiced her concerns about how democracy should function, emphasizing that the people should have a say in who gets nominated. She shared her worry that political games on both sides are eroding trust in the process.
For those who know Michaels from her time on NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” it might come as a surprise that she had never crossed paths with Donald Trump, who was hosting “The Apprentice” at the time. While Michaels isn’t shy about her personal issues with Trump, she admits that some of his policies align more closely with her views than those on the left, though she’s careful not to fully endorse him.
“Listen, he’s done a ton of stuff I don’t like, obviously,” Michaels said. “You know, the ‘grab’em by the you know’… January 6 bothers me. I wish he was less bombastic and less divisive. I do. Now, if you were to ask me about some of his policies over some of the policies on the left, I’m going to lean into that.”
One of the key issues on Michaels’ mind is the ongoing war with Russia, particularly because it hits close to home for her, literally. “Personally for me, there’s Russian submarines 90 miles off the coast of Miami. Like, I live there! I want that to end now!” She also touched on gender-affirming care and immigration, expressing a desire for more balanced and thoughtful approaches on these issues.
Despite her leanings, Michaels expressed a preference for Robert F. Kennedy Jr., saying, “He makes the most sense to me, truthfully.” Michaels appreciates Kennedy’s focus on health and finds his approach less divisive, something that resonates with her on a personal level.
