Massachusetts Police: Councilwoman Incites Mob, Assaults Officers to Stop Arrest of Violent Illegal Alien

In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage among law enforcement advocates, a Worcester, Massachusetts city councilwoman is now facing calls for criminal charges after allegedly assaulting officers and inciting a violent mob trying to block the arrest of a criminal illegal alien.

The councilwoman, Etel Haxhiaj, who represents District 5, is accused of encouraging bystanders to interfere with a federal immigration operation conducted last Friday by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and local police.

According to the Worcester Police Patrolman’s Union, Haxhiaj wasn’t just present—she was a key agitator in escalating the situation, which turned chaotic and violent.

“Etel Haxhiaj incited aggression towards the police during the incident. This councilor participated in the conduct of the unruly crowd and eventually assaulted both Worcester police and federal law enforcement officers on scene. Her behavior also emboldened others to act in this manner,” the police union said in a statement released Saturday.

The flashpoint occurred when federal agents moved in to arrest Ferreira de Oliveira, an illegal immigrant with a criminal record. De Oliveira had previously been arrested by local police for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a pregnant victim.

As ICE attempted to apprehend De Oliveira, a crowd of more than two dozen people surrounded the officers, chanting slogans like “No warrant!” and “Not the mother!” Some reports described the crowd as “neighbors,” but the size and speed of the gathering raised suspicions that anti-deportation activists may have been tipped off about the operation.

Another video surfaced showing Haxhiaj excitedly trying to justify her behavior to a police officer, even as tensions remained high. While it’s still unclear whether she will be formally charged, law enforcement officers and the police union are demanding accountability.

The confrontation didn’t end with just heated words or pushing. Two others were arrested during the incident:

• Ashley Spring, a candidate for Worcester School Board, allegedly threw an unknown liquid at police officers.
  
• De Oliveira’s daughter, who not only tried to block an ICE vehicle while holding her infant but later kicked the passenger side of the car, was also arrested.
  She faces multiple charges, including:
  • Reckless endangerment of a child
  • Disturbing the peace
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Resisting arrest

Thankfully, the child was unharmed, according to MassLive.

This incident in Worcester is just the latest in a growing pattern of Democratic officials interfering with immigration enforcement. As President Trump and federal agencies continue their effort to crack down on illegal aliens with violent criminal histories, local politicians—especially in sanctuary cities—are increasingly standing in the way.

The pattern raises serious concerns about the rule of law and the safety of officers trying to do their jobs.

Whether or not charges will be filed against Councilwoman Haxhiaj remains to be seen. But one thing is certain—this event adds more fuel to the fire in the ongoing debate over immigration enforcement, sanctuary policies, and the radical behavior of some local officials.
