Recently released footage from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation in Minneapolis has added new factual detail to an incident in which an ICE agent shot and killed activist Renee Good. The video shows the sequence of events immediately before the shooting and is now central to official reviews and public discussion about the encounter, which occurred during a federal law enforcement operation.
According to the footage, an ICE agent exits his vehicle and approaches a maroon SUV driven by Good that was positioned across the roadway during the operation. The SUV appears to be blocking access as agents conduct enforcement activity. The agent is seen approaching the driver’s side of the vehicle without drawing his weapon or issuing verbal threats. During this exchange, Good remains in the driver’s seat while a passenger, identified as Rebecca, addresses the agent, saying, “You wanna come at us? You wanna come at us? Why don’t you go get yourself some lunch, big boy? Go ahead.” The agent does not respond verbally and continues to focus on the situation in front of him.
As the encounter continues, another agent can be heard instructing Good to “get out of the car.” The footage shows the SUV’s wheels turned as the agent on foot moves around the front of the vehicle, apparently to assist his colleague. Moments later, the SUV reverses and then accelerates forward in the direction of the agent. Video frames show the vehicle moving toward him as he is on foot in close proximity.
