President Donald Trump has launched a fresh attack on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, criticizing his leadership and questioning the U.S.’s continued financial support for Ukraine’s war effort.

In a fiery post on Truth Social, Trump dismissed Zelensky’s concerns about being excluded from recent U.S.-Russia diplomatic talks and accused him of manipulating American leaders into pouring billions into a war that “never had to start.”

Trump didn’t hold back in his post, mocking Zelensky’s background as a comedian and blaming him for a war he claims “couldn’t be won.”

“Think of it, a modestly successful comedian, Volodymyr Zelensky, talked the United States of America into spending $350 billion to go into a war that couldn’t be won, that never had to start,” Trump wrote. “Without the U.S. and ‘TRUMP,’ [Zelensky] will never be able to settle it.”

He also took issue with the unequal burden of military aid, arguing that the U.S. has spent far more than Europe on Ukraine’s defense, despite the war posing a greater security threat to Europe than America.

“The United States has spent $200 billion more than Europe, and Europe’s money is guaranteed, while the United States will get nothing back,” he said. “Why didn’t Sleepy Joe Biden demand equalization?”

Trump also took a direct shot at Zelensky’s leadership, claiming he “refuses to have elections” and suggesting that he’s using the war as a way to maintain power.

“A Dictator without Elections, Zelensky better move fast or he is not going to have a country left.”

The United States and Russia held high-level talks in Saudi Arabia this week, discussing potential paths to peace—without Ukraine at the table.

Zelensky responded with frustration, telling reporters from Turkey:

“Decisions on how to end the war in Ukraine cannot be made without Ukraine, nor can any conditions be imposed.”

He added that the exclusion of Ukraine from such negotiations was “a surprise” and disappointing to his administration.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Adviser Michael Waltz, and Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff represented the U.S. in the Saudi talks, where they met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Although Ukraine was not invited, Zelensky did meet with U.S. officials at the Munich Security Conference last week, where he described the discussions as “good.”

Trump also made the bold assertion that his team is actively working behind the scenes to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine—something he says Biden and European leaders have failed to do.

“Biden never tried, Europe has failed to bring peace, and Zelensky probably wants to keep the ‘gravy train’ going,” Trump wrote. “I love Ukraine, but Zelensky has done a terrible job, his country is shattered, and MILLIONS have unnecessarily died.”

With Russia-Ukraine negotiations continuing and the 2024 U.S. presidential election looming, Trump’s stance on the war—and its financial cost to the U.S.—is likely to remain a key talking point.
