In another sad reflection of the growing lawlessness in our nation’s capital, authorities have arrested an illegal alien accused of stealing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s purse from a Washington, D.C., restaurant over the Easter weekend.
According to a report from the New York Post, officers from the D.C. Metro Police and the Secret Service made the arrest on Saturday. However, the case isn’t fully closed yet — officials say another suspected illegal alien involved in the theft is still on the loose.
At the time of the report, the identity of the suspect in custody had not been made public.
Following the arrest, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents joined the investigation. Ed Martin, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, spoke about the case and confirmed that immigration authorities are working closely with law enforcement:
“President Trump’s direction to us is we charge these folks that are here illegally and we prosecute them as well as deport them when need be, you know, as soon as that can happen,” Martin explained, according to NBC Chicago.
Importantly, officials clarified they do not believe Noem was targeted because of her role as Secretary of Homeland Security. Instead, it appears the thieves saw an opportunity and struck — simply because Noem’s purse was “a nice looking purse,” Martin noted.
When the theft occurred, Noem’s handbag was carrying some very valuable — and sensitive — items, according to Breitbart News. Inside the bag were:
- $3,000 in cash
- Her passport
- Her DHS access card
- An apartment key
- Makeup and a personal medication bag
During a recent interview, Noem explained that the theft was “very professionally done,” suggesting the suspects knew exactly how to carry out such a crime quickly and without drawing attention.
The incident happened at Capital Burger, a popular restaurant in D.C., where Noem was dining with her family. Shockingly, reports say that her Secret Service detail was present when the theft took place.
This raises serious questions about just how bold criminals have become — not only willing to steal from regular citizens but also targeting a sitting U.S. Cabinet member, even in the presence of security personnel.
Further investigation revealed this theft may not have been an isolated event. NBC 4 reported that just three days earlier, a different woman eating with her family at another nearby restaurant had her purse stolen in a similar fashion.
According to the NBC Chicago article:
“NBC News discovered the similarities in the two incidents after requesting reports of thefts in the neighborhood from the DC Metropolitan Police Department.”
This suggests that the group behind the thefts may be operating as part of a larger organized robbery ring — a troubling trend that seems to be gaining steam in D.C., a city already suffering from surging crime rates.
This story is another glaring example of why border security and immigration enforcement are so critical. When illegal aliens can enter the country unchecked and commit crimes — even against top government officials — it’s clear that the system is broken and the American people are paying the price.
With President Trump pushing for stronger deportation efforts and a crackdown on crime, stories like this serve as a reminder that America’s safety and sovereignty must come first.
