Nick Reiner, the son of filmmaker Rob Reiner and producer Michele Singer Reiner, has been booked on murder charges following an investigation into the deaths of his parents at their Los Angeles home, according to law enforcement officials. Authorities said the case is being handled by specialized detectives and remains under active investigation as additional details are reviewed and verified.
“We have our robbery/homicide division handling the investigation. They worked throughout the night on this case and were able to take into custody Nick Reiner, a suspect in this case,” said LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell. “He was subsequently booked for murder and is being held on $4 million bail,” McDonnell added. Officials indicated that the arrest followed overnight investigative work by detectives assigned to the case.
The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that it responded to a medical aid request shortly after 3:30 p.m. and discovered a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman deceased inside the residence. Investigators later described the incident as an “apparent homicide,” according to Capt. Mike Bland of the Los Angeles Police Department. Detectives with the Robbery Homicide Division were assigned to examine the scene, gather evidence, and interview individuals connected to the case, including a family member.
Nick Reiner was taken into custody overnight and formally booked early Monday morning. Law enforcement officials said he was lodged in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s jail at approximately 7:00 a.m. on Monday. Authorities have not released further details about a possible motive or the circumstances surrounding the deaths, noting that the investigation is ongoing and that additional information will be made public as it becomes available through official channels.
