President Donald Trump has officially pulled the plug on taxpayer-funded Secret Service protection for Hunter Biden, son of former President Joe Biden, as well as Ashley Biden, Joe Biden’s daughter. The move comes as reports surface that Hunter Biden has been vacationing in South Africa, all while still enjoying round-the-clock security at the expense of hardworking American taxpayers.
Trump made the announcement on his social media platform, Truth Social, stating that Hunter Biden had as many as 18 Secret Service agents assigned to his protection detail—a number he called “ridiculous.” Meanwhile, Ashley Biden was reportedly assigned 13 agents for her security.
Trump: No More Free Rides on the Taxpayer’s Dime
In his post, Trump was clear about his decision:
“Hunter Biden has had Secret Service protection for an extended period of time, all paid for by the United States Taxpayer. There are as many as 18 people on this Detail, which is ridiculous! He is currently vacationing in, of all places, South Africa, where the Human Rights of people has been strenuously questioned. Because of this, South Africa has been taken off our list of Countries receiving Economic and Financial Assistance.”
Trump then issued a firm directive:
“Please be advised that, effective immediately, Hunter Biden will no longer receive Secret Service protection. Likewise, Ashley Biden, who has 13 agents, will be taken off the list.”
What Does the Law Say About Secret Service Protection?
According to the U.S. Secret Service, which has been in operation since 1865, protection is granted to individuals such as the sitting President, Vice President, and their immediate families, as well as former Presidents and their spouses. Children of former Presidents receive protection until the age of 16.
However, Hunter Biden—who is 54 years old—has been benefiting from taxpayer-funded security far beyond what is normally extended to children of former Presidents. Ashley Biden, who is 43, also continued receiving Secret Service protection long after her father left office.
Hunter Biden’s Lavish South African Getaway
Trump’s announcement coincides with revelations that Hunter Biden has been living it up in South Africa with a full Secret Service detail in tow. Conservative investigative journalist Laura Loomer has been tracking Hunter Biden’s movements and shared updates on X (formerly Twitter) exposing his luxurious Cape Town vacation.
On March 17, Loomer reported that Hunter Biden was spotted dining with Trump-hating comedian Ellen DeGeneres at an upscale restaurant in Cape Town—all while still under full Secret Service protection.
“Despite telling the federal court in Los Angeles that he is BROKE on 3/5/25, tonight @HunterBiden and his wife Melissa Cohen were spotted by @LoomerUnleashed investigators on the ground in South Africa having dinner at an expensive restaurant in Cape Town with @TheEllenShow ELLEN DEGENERES,” Loomer posted.
This is the same Hunter Biden who, just days earlier, claimed in court that he was financially destitute and unable to pay mounting legal fees. Yet, here he is, jet-setting across the world with full government-funded protection, staying in luxury accommodations, and rubbing elbows with Hollywood elites.
Hunter Biden has long been the poster child for Democrat privilege—from his highly questionable foreign business dealings in Ukraine and China to his sweetheart plea deals with the DOJ. His continued use of taxpayer-funded Secret Service protection only reinforced the double standard that many Americans have grown tired of.
But Trump’s decision sends a clear message: The era of unlimited perks for the Biden family is over.
With Trump prioritizing America First policies, it’s no surprise that he’s cutting wasteful spending—including ending taxpayer-funded security details for individuals who no longer qualify for protection. The days of Biden family members vacationing on the backs of American workers are coming to an end.
