Calling all history buffs: Two renovated military forts off the coast of England, No Man’s Fort and Spitbank Fort, are headed to auction with a guide price of nearly $1.3 million each.
These iconic maritime structures, part of the Solent forts collection, were constructed in the mid-19th century between the city of Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight to protect against the French. Despite their formidable appearance, they never saw any military action and were decommissioned in 1956, according to TimeOut. Now, both have been transformed into luxurious, nautical-themed hotels.
No Man’s Fort spans an impressive 99,000 square feet and features four stories, a traditional English pub, and a nightclub. Spitbank Fort, while a third of the size, still offers a range of impressive amenities, including a wine cave, rooftop terrace, and spa facilities, as detailed in a press release from the real estate agency Savills.
