Tensions ran high at the White House on Friday when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Donald Trump clashed in a heated exchange seen worldwide.
Zelenskyy, who traveled to the U.S. to discuss Trump’s claims that a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia is nearing completion, found himself in a war of words with Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
Despite the public fireworks, Zelenskyy later told Fox News he believes their relationship can still be salvaged.
‘Do You Think Your Relationship Can Be Salvaged?’
In an exclusive interview with Bret Baier, Zelenskyy remained diplomatic, emphasizing that the Ukraine-U.S. alliance is bigger than just two presidents:
“It’s the historical relations, strong relations between our people… I just want our partners to understand the situation correctly, and I want to understand everything correctly.”
However, when asked about the tense confrontation, Zelenskyy admitted it was “bad for both sides” but stopped short of an apology.
Oval Office War of Words
The conversation took a sharp turn when Vance suggested that the U.S. was pushing for diplomacy while Ukraine was still forcing conscripts to the front lines.
Zelenskyy pushed back, arguing that every country faces challenges in wartime, to which Trump fired back:
“Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel. We’re trying to solve a problem.”
The exchange escalated, with Trump accusing Zelenskyy of “playing cards” and gambling with World War III.
“You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people. You’re gambling with World War III, and what you’re doing is very disrespectful to this country.”
Vance even called out Zelenskyy directly:
“Have you said thank you once this entire meeting?”
The tense back-and-forth lasted several minutes, and as frustration mounted, Trump made his stance clear:
“You’re either going to make a deal, or we’re out. And if we’re out, you’ll fight it out. I don’t think it’s going to be pretty.”
The heated meeting had real consequences:
🚨 The planned press conference was canceled
🚨 The U.S.-Ukraine minerals deal was scrapped
🚨 Zelenskyy was asked to leave
While Zelenskyy denied the clash was staged, he expressed frustration over how Ukraine was being portrayed.
“When they say Ukraine is almost destroyed, that our soldiers run away, that they are not heroes… where is our friendship between Ukraine and the United States?”
The dust is far from settling on this explosive Oval Office encounter—but one thing is clear: Ukraine’s future with the U.S. under Trump’s leadership is on shaky ground.
