FBI: Dallas Sniper Who Attacked ICE Facility had ‘Anti-ICE’ ‘Ideological Motive’

On Wednesday morning, violence struck at the Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility when a gunman opened fire, killing one person and leaving others wounded before turning the weapon on himself. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that the shooter acted with an ideological motive, leaving behind a chilling message that makes this more than just another isolated act of violence.

Patel reported that “one of the unspent shell casings recovered was engraved with the phrase ‘ANTI ICE.’” That detail alone underscores how targeted this attack was, not against random individuals, but against an institution of federal law enforcement carrying out its legal duties. Patel added, “While the investigation is ongoing, an initial review of the evidence shows an idealogical motive behind this attack. More updates will be forthcoming.”

Patel himself pointed out that “these despicable, politically motivated attacks against law enforcement are not a one-off. We are only miles from Prarieland Texas where just two months ago an individual ambushed a separate ICE facility targeting their officers. It has to end and the FBI and our partners will lead these investigative efforts to see to it that those who target our law enforcement are pursued and brought to the fullest extent of justice.”

Thankfully, no ICE agents or other law enforcement personnel were injured in this latest attack, though the loss of life is still devastating. Initial reports mistakenly suggested two detainees were killed, but Patel later clarified that one person had died while others remain injured. Regardless, the fact remains that the shooter deliberately chose a government facility tasked with upholding immigration law as his target.

This attack does not exist in a vacuum.
