Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign recently criticized former President Trump following his interview with billionaire Elon Musk on X Spaces, the live audio chat feature on the platform formerly known as Twitter. The Harris campaign accused Trump of catering to “self-obsessed rich guys” who prioritize their own interests over the middle class.
The interview, despite facing technical difficulties, attracted millions of listeners. During the conversation, Trump shared his views on various topics, including immigration, inflation, and his controversial proposal to eliminate the Department of Education, allowing states to take control of their school systems. He argued that most states would thrive under such a system, though he expressed doubts about deep blue states like California.
Musk invited Harris to join him on X Spaces as well, but her campaign took the opportunity to criticize Trump instead. They condemned his policy proposals and mocked the technical issues during the livestream. Harris campaign spokesperson Joseph Costello described Trump’s agenda as “extremism” and accused him of aligning with wealthy individuals like Musk who are out of touch with the needs of the middle class.
The interview also marked Trump’s return to the X platform after nearly a year. He had been suspended from the platform following the January 6th Capitol riot, but Musk reinstated his account last year. However, Trump’s activity on the platform had been minimal until this recent interview.
Trump used the interview to take further jabs at Harris, labeling her as a “radical-left lunatic” and criticizing her for policies he claims would be disastrous for the country. He also addressed President Biden’s decision to suspend his re-election campaign, calling it a “coup” orchestrated by Democrats concerned about Biden’s mental fitness. Musk echoed Trump’s sentiments, leading to more criticism from the Harris campaign.
The interview and the ensuing responses from both camps highlight the ongoing tensions and differing visions for the future of the country as the 2024 election approaches.
