In yet another display of media bias, New York Times columnist Bret Stephens took to HBO’s “Real Time” with Bill Maher on Friday to bash President Donald Trump’s second term — particularly his first 100 days back in office.
Stephens, a longtime critic of Trump, claimed that the beginning of Trump’s second term has been “the worst first 100 days in U.S. presidential history.” However, as usual, the so-called “experts” in the liberal media seem to be missing the real story behind Trump’s strong actions to fix years of damage caused by the radical left.
Stephens told Maher:
“I think that my summary of the first 100 days is that the bad news is, it’s the worst first 100 days in U.S. presidential history. I can’t think of a presidency that had it worse.”
In Stephens’ view, the supposed “good news” was that Trump’s critics — and even some of his voters — are waking up to what he calls the “reality of just how much worse it can get.” He suggested that people who supported Trump because they wanted change are now regretting it.
“A lot of the country that voted for President Trump because they didn’t like the course of the country under his predecessor because they were mad, because they thought stuff needed to be broken up and disrupted are waking up to the reality of just how much worse it can get,” Stephens said.
Trying to Paint Trump’s Policies as “Disasters”
Stephens claimed he’s heard from friends who backed Trump before, but are now allegedly complaining about Trump’s tough tariffs and strong policies to bring manufacturing back to America.
He stated:
“And I’m hearing from so many friends who voted for Trump, who remember the first Trump administration as being an era — at least until COVID — of prosperity and saying, hang on a second, 100% tariffs? I’m losing half of my workforce, I can’t afford things, the price of consumer goods is still going up, this is not what I voted for.”
But here’s the reality the media won’t admit: Trump’s America First policies, including tough tariffs on foreign goods, are meant to revive American manufacturing, bring jobs back home, and stop our country’s dangerous reliance on China — something conservatives have been demanding for years.
Of course, rebalancing decades of bad globalist policies isn’t painless. But instead of supporting Trump’s efforts to rebuild America’s economy, liberal commentators like Stephens continue rooting for failure.
Stephens added that if Trump’s second term had started off “a little less bad” — in his opinion — Americans might have overlooked concerns like due process or disagreements with the Supreme Court.
He said:
“Because if it had been a successful first 100 days, if it had been just a little less bad, people would say, well, what’s the problem if we’re not observing due process or what’s the problem if we’re defying the Supreme Court? That would be even more worrisome than what we have now.”
In other words, Stephens fears that if Trump’s policies were more immediately popular, Americans wouldn’t worry about supposed “attacks on democracy” — a favorite talking point of the left.
The truth is that President Trump’s bold moves — from taking on global trade bullies to standing firm on immigration and border security — are exactly what it takes to restore American strength and sovereignty.
Of course the first 100 days weren’t “smooth” — Trump wasn’t elected to maintain the status quo. He was elected to shake it up, drain the swamp, and put American citizens first.
Despite the doom-and-gloom predictions from media elites, President Trump continues to focus on delivering real results for working-class Americans — not on pleasing Washington insiders or talking heads on TV.
The road to real change is never easy, and real patriots know that restoring greatness takes guts — something Trump has never lacked.
This is a lot of garbage. Trump has always wanted what is best for America and those that don’t realize that are either stupid or don’t care.
