Vice President JD Vance is proving he’s more than just a rising star—he’s a serious contender. A new poll shows Vance defeating California Gov. Gavin Newsom across seven critical battleground states in a hypothetical 2028 matchup.
The survey, conducted by Plymouth Union Public Research, covered Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—the states that will almost certainly decide who controls the White House after President Donald Trump completes his second term. The results? Vance carried five out of seven states, winning 51 percent of likely voters to Newsom’s 49 percent.
What makes this especially telling is how voters are breaking across party lines. Vance is pulling nine percent of Democrats, while Newsom is only peeling off seven percent of Republicans. That swing could be decisive in states where margins are razor-thin.
Favorability numbers also show Vance holding an edge. Twenty-seven percent of voters view him very favorably, compared to just 16 percent for Newsom. The California governor faces another problem: a quarter of voters have never even heard of him. For a man touted as the Democratic “golden boy,” that’s a glaring weakness. Worse still, 24 percent of Americans say they view Newsom very unfavorably—an image problem likely tied to California’s well-documented decline under his leadership.
Other Democrats don’t fare much better. Former Vice President Kamala Harris sits underwater with nearly as many Americans disapproving as approving. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro remain largely unknown outside their states, with high “never heard of” numbers dragging their viability.
Meanwhile, Vance has been consolidating support among conservatives. He dominated the CPAC straw poll and has drawn praise directly from President Trump, who recently said Vance is “most likely” the heir to lead the MAGA movement. That kind of endorsement matters, especially as voters look for continuity of the “America First” agenda beyond Trump’s tenure.
And that agenda continues to resonate. Sixty-six percent of voters in the survey supported Trump’s America First Investment policies—policies that not only strengthen U.S. capital markets but also shield national security from foreign entanglements. Even four in ten Democrats agreed with this common-sense approach.
On trade, the results were even clearer. Eighty percent of voters backed requiring foreign companies to build their products here in partnership with American firms. Nearly three-quarters supported holding Chinese companies to the same standards American businesses face when dealing with Beijing. That’s a clear repudiation of decades of globalist policies that left American workers behind and empowered the Chinese Communist Party.
The numbers don’t lie: Vance is emerging as a strong, credible leader for the next generation of the America First movement. Democrats may dream of a Newsom presidency, but in the states that matter, voters appear ready to stick with common-sense leadership rooted in security, strength, and putting America first.
I highly doubt that any of this matters as neither will be running for the presidency. If I remember correctly, neither of them are actually living. People are going to be so blown away when they find out about body doubles and masks!! I’m ready for the “Greatest Show on Earth” ,been ready for a long time! Tired of waiting for the sheeple to wake up. 🍿🍿🍿🍿
