President Trump: Democrats ‘Are Led by Insane People’

President Donald Trump isn’t sugarcoating Washington’s dysfunction. Speaking with reporters Wednesday, he said working with Democrats in Congress is “almost a waste of time” and blasted their leadership as “insane.”

Asked if he would meet with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries over looming government funding deadlines, Trump said:

“Well, I will, I guess, but it’s almost a waste of time to meet because they never approve anything. If we want money to fight crime, if we want money to do—only good things, just good things, let’s not even talk about controversial—they don’t want to meet about anything.”

The president added,

“They’re stuck. They don’t know what to do… I would say more than half are sane, but they are led by insane people.”

His comments come as public opinion shows Democrats sinking to historic lows. A CNBC poll of 1,000 adults from July 29 to August 3 found just 24% holding a favorable view of the party, while 56% viewed them negatively—a net -32 rating, the worst for either party in CNBC’s tracking since 1996. That lines up with RealClearPolling’s current averages: 34.1% favorable, 59.4% unfavorable.

The slide has been steady for months. Even back in March, a CNN/SSRS poll found Democrats stuck at 29% favorability. Now, they’ve plunged further—reflecting mounting voter frustration over policies that have fueled cultural chaos, economic strain, and public safety concerns.

Trump told Breitbart News earlier this year that the Democratic Party “broke” itself and continues to push policies that alienate the vast majority of Americans.

“The Democrat Party broke themselves, and they’re continuing to do so,” he said, pointing to men in women’s sports as just one example. “These aren’t 90-10, these are 95-5, and I don’t know who the 5 are.”

The bottom line: when a party’s leadership prioritizes ideology over common-sense governance, it loses the trust of everyday Americans. And according to the numbers, Democrats aren’t just losing it—they’ve already lost it.
