President Donald Trump is stirring up conversation again—this time with a bold idea to relocate nearly 90,000 IRS agents to patrol the U.S.-Mexico border, armed and ready.
Speaking at a rally in Las Vegas over the weekend, Trump slammed the Biden administration’s expansion of the IRS, saying the newly hired agents were meant to “go after you.” Instead of auditing Americans, he suggested a new role for them: securing the border.
“They’re allowed to carry guns,” Trump pointed out, referencing a federal law that permits certain IRS agents to be armed. “So we’ll probably move them to the border.”
A Radical Tax Overhaul?
As if moving IRS agents to border patrol duty wasn’t enough, Trump also floated the idea of eliminating income tax altogether—a move that would rewrite the economic playbook.
“How about just no tax?” he joked, earning cheers from the crowd. His plan? Relying on tariffs instead—similar to the system the U.S. used before 1913, when tariffs were the primary source of federal revenue.
Trump has also reaffirmed his promise to eliminate taxes on tips, a particularly relevant pledge in Las Vegas, where the hospitality industry relies on tipped workers. He assured servers, bartenders, and hotel staff that their hard-earned tips would be “100% yours.”
Beyond Taxes: Trump’s Early Moves in Office
Beyond tax policy, Trump highlighted some of his administration’s early actions, including:
- Withdrawing from the World Health Organization (WHO)
- Rolling back federal diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs
“We got rid of the woke crap,” Trump said bluntly.
With policies and rhetoric that continue to shake up Washington, Trump is making it clear that his second term is going to be just as headline-grabbing as the first.
