The study, which focused on health care workers dealing with moderate back pain, showed that regular yoga helped participants reduce their pain and even cut down on their use of pain medication.
In the study, one group of participants did online yoga, while the other stayed on a waitlist. After six weeks of yoga, the yoga group reported their pain levels dropped from a 6 to a 4. And after six months, their pain was down to a 3! Meanwhile, the waitlist group’s pain stayed the same.
Dr. Robert Saper, who led the study, said the results were impressive, with many participants also cutting back on pain medication—down from 74% at the start of the study to just under 30% by the end.
